Undergrad Research Mentorship Awardees of 2024

Dr. Michaeline Jensen watches UNCG undergraduate students work around a table.

One of the achievements of UNC Greensboro faculty is their ability to open doorways for aspiring researchers while they’re still in their undergraduate programs. They step in as mentors, connect them with other high-achievement undergrads and graduate students, and usher them into the world of academic research and creative inquiry.

The Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity Office (URSCO) awards the Thomas Undergraduate Research Mentor Award to two faculty each year. UNCG congratulates the recipients of this year’s awards:

Dr. Sat Gupta, tenured category

Gupta has mentored 9 UNCG undergraduate students on individual projects. As the principal investigator on a current 3-year NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) grant and one in 2018 – and as senior personnel on previous REU grants – he has welcomed a host of visiting student researchers to our campus.

Dr. Michaeline Jensen, non-tenure track, pre-tenured category

Jensen involves her undergraduate mentees in all aspects of the research process, from study design to publication. Two students have co-authored peer-reviewed manuscripts, three have won Undergraduate Research and Creativity Awards, and one is a UNCG-McNair Scholar.
