John Carrico ’23 credits his degree from UNCG’s Bryan School of Business and Economics for helping him land his dream job with Mission Health’s Mountain Area Medical Airlift Team. Today, he builds vital partnerships to get medical transport services to rural communities that need them the most.

Spartan artist makes mark in ‘Athens of the South’

As a UNCG student, Alan LeQuire ’81 M.F.A. proposed recreating the long-lost Athena statue from ancient Athens’ Parthenon. Standing 42 feet tall and gilded in gold, it now dazzles visitors in Nashville’s Parthenon. LeQuire’s work is being celebrated in two current exhibitions.

Hoffmann Gift Strengthens the Learning Experience at Weatherspoon

Nancy Hoffmann, motivated by a love for art and a dedication to honoring her late husband, established an endowment at the Weatherspoon Art Museum. The gift supports academic programming through guest speaker stipends, provides funding for faculty and student exhibitions, and enriches the curriculum for all learners.

Rx To Serve: Alum’s Neurological Advancements

Trey Bateman ’08 arrived at UNCG after his mother had just lost her job in the textile industry. He used a Pell Grant to succeed as a double major in biology and psychology before going on to medical school at UNC-Chapel Hill. Now a clinical researcher, he treats and studies neurodegenerative causes of cognitive decline and dementia in adults.

Physician Assistant Mia McDonald ‘15 earned her post-baccalaureate biology major from UNCG after contemplating a career in health care. During this time, she completed credits needed for school applications and built connections that helped her land her first PA position.

Recent graduate Danny Thompson Jr., who was a right-handed pitcher for the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the eighth round with the 232nd pick during the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft on Monday.
