The post-baccalaureate certificate in Advanced Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultural Studies is designed for professionals who may have a bachelor’s degree in a field other than Spanish but who are able to demonstrate Spanish linguistic and analytical skills equivalent to having completed a minimum of 21 undergraduate credits above the 204 level.
PROGRAM DISTINCTIONS
- The department offers a wide variety of co-curricular events that promote global awareness and cross-cultural understanding.
- The department participates in foreign language studies consortia within the University of North Carolina distance education system, UNC Online and the Language Exchange, as well as interdisciplinary programs throughout the College of Arts and Sciences.
- Faculty receive regional, national, and international recognition and have received prestigious campus- and nation-wide teaching awards.
- Faculty have received research grants allowing them to pursue literary, cultural, and linguistic study that they share in the classroom.
THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE
- The department promotes co-curricular activities through language clubs, honorary societies, film series, and other opportunities. Paid or unpaid internships requiring foreign language skills are increasingly available.
AFTER GRADUATION
- Graduates find careers as teachers of K-12 students, linguists, and translators or interpreters.
