Art, B.F.A. Painting Concentration

400

The study of painting is deeply wedded to the global study of visual art as an extension of context. As parallel tracks to the study of painting, students develop fluency in drawing, an emphasis on daily sketchbook practice, explorative thematic approaches to material and form, and deeply reflective writing and critical speaking practices.

Program Distinctions

Painting students at UNC Greensboro are encouraged to see and understand connections between painting and societal contexts in which movements emerge and newly revolutionary expression is made possible by artists. We value the diverse and nuanced range of subjectivities represented by our painting students, and we work alongside them to enable the technical and conceptual knowledge through which innovative painting modalities emerge.

This education emphasizes visual and intellectual curiosity and the tactical questioning of convention and traditional painting hierarchies. Our program fosters innovative and literate visual thinkers capable of using painting as a means of deeply meaningful communication and translation.
