A B.A. in Environment and Sustainability at UNC Greensboro offers an interdisciplinary, hands‑on path for students who want to understand environmental challenges and help create equitable, effective solutions. Through coursework in natural sciences, social sciences, and the humanities, you’ll learn to analyze environmental problems, evaluate solutions, and communicate effectively about sustainability issues.

The degree offers two concentrations: Natural Sciences and Equity, Development, and Ethics. You can tailor your studies to your goals while completing a required minor that complements your chosen track. Graduates are well prepared for careers in nonprofits, government, environmental consulting, education, policy, and sustainability, as well as for advanced study in a wide range of fields.

THE Environment and Sustainability STUDENT EXPERIENCE

  • Work with faculty from across campus to gather information about environmental problems from multiple disciplines, think critically about the causes of environmental problems, propose effective solutions, and communicate ideas clearly.
  • Design your own course of study, choosing courses related to your personal and career interests.
  • Get a job as a research assistant or Conduct research through research assistantships are available, along with opportunities to work closely with a professor on a research project.
  • Intern with organizations such as the Greensboro Science Center, National Park Service, Piedmont Land Conservancy, UNCG Sustainability Office, and more.
  • Receive support to participate in the Lloyd International Honors College and short- or long-term study abroad.

AFTER GRADUATIng with your environment and Sustainability Bachelor’s degree

Graduates of UNCG’s Environment and Sustainability program pursue careers in environmental education, sustainability programs, recreation and tourism, environmental journalism, research, environmental advocacy and lobbying, and government and public policy. The program prepares students to analyze complex environmental issues and contribute to meaningful sustainability solutions in communities, organizations, and public agencies.
