Bachelor's in Political Science - Civic Leadership and Engagement

The civic leadership and engagement concentration at UNC Greensboro teaches political science majors to effectively participate in, organize, and lead civic groups and communities as they work to solve public problems.

This concentration prepares future leaders. Through coursework and internship experiences, students will become well versed in social behavior, global issues, democratic decision-making, project management, effective communication, community-engaged research, consensus-building, social organizing and more.

Civic Leadership and Engagement PROGRAM DISTINCTIONS

  • Faculty members are nationally recognized scholars who are committed to undergraduate education.
  • The undergraduate political science curriculum offers a broad liberal arts education along with a comprehensive understanding of the nature and functioning of the political process, in addition to a sound foundation for graduate study or careers that require knowledge of governance and the political process.

THE Civic Leadership and Engagement STUDENT EXPERIENCE

  • Choose from courses such as Entrepreneurship in the Public Sector, Urban Politics, and Speaking Out for Community Change.
  • Gain internship experiences with local government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and political campaigns.
  • Collaborate with faculty on research; undergraduate research scholarships are available.
  • Study in Washington D.C. The Washington Summer Study Session is offered every other summer for three weeks.
  • Engage with the community through service-learning courses.
  • Receive individual faculty advising sessions each semester.
  • Join the Political Awareness Club, Model United Nations Club, and Pi Sigma Alpha (the political science honor society).

AFTER GRADUATIng with a bachelor’s in Civic Leadership and Engagement

  • Provides preparation for careers that require knowledge of governance and the political process.
  • Graduates pursue careers in a range of fields, including state, local, and federal government; nonprofit organizations; and international affairs. Potential careers include:
