Online Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Sport and Performance Psychology

The Online Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Sport and Performance Psychology at UNC Greensboro is for people who want to expand their knowledge and skills in sport and exercise psychology, sport coaching, and mental skills training and performance.

Students will design evidence-based psychological interventions that enhance performance and personal growth, evaluate mental performance of clients, and describe theories and principles in the field to promote performance enhancement.

UNCG’s Department of Kinesiology is one of the most comprehensive programs in the country. It has faculty with expertise in multiple sub-disciplines, including sports medicine, athletic training, community youth sport development, exercise physiology, motor behavior, applied neuromechanics, pedagogy, sport and exercise psychology, and sport history and philosophy.

Online Sport and Performance Psychology Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program Distinctions

The Online Sport and Performance Psychology Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program at UNCG is taught by faculty members who are experts in the field of kinesiology and exercise psychology. Faculty are also former collegiate athletes and experienced coaches. They lend first-hand experiences and insight into what is being taught.

The fully online certificate program is designed for working professionals and graduate students. All courses are asynchronous.

Students will choose between nine and 12 credits from seven classes, which include:

  • Mental Skills Training for Sport Coaches
  • Working with Diverse Populations in Sport and Performance Psychology
  • Advanced Motor Learning and Control
  • Psychological Aspects of Sport Injury
  • Applied Sport Psychology
  • Social Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity
  • Ethics in Practice, Teaching, and Research

All courses will equip students with the knowledge needed to expand their skills by:

  • Describing theories and principles in sport and performance psychology to inform professional practice and promote performance enhancement.
  • Evaluating the mental performance needs of clients to identify factors influencing performance, personal development, and well-being.
  • Designing and implementing evidence-based psychological interventions that enhance performance, facilitate personal growth, and promote satisfaction across sport and exercise contexts.
