Brief Bio

DeOnna Lavette Reliford is an Academic Professional Assistant Professor of Human Health Sciences at UNC Greensboro. She brings a strong commitment to improving healthcare access, communication, and outcomes for diverse populations.

Dr. Reliford has previously worked as an Assistant Professor of Spanish for the Health Professions, where she prepared future healthcare providers to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking patients and communities. She also has experience developing, designing, implementing, and teaching medical/healthcare interpreting curricula for two online healthcare interpreting programs.

In addition to her academic experience, Dr. Reliford has worked as a bilingual community health program manager at Wake Forest Baptist Health, leading initiatives that promoted health education and community engagement. She has also worked as a bilingual patient navigator at Wake Forest Baptist Health and contributed more than 300 hours as a volunteer healthcare interpreter at the Community Care Clinic for Forsyth County.

Education

Dr. Reliford holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Practice and Innovation: Curriculum Studies from the University of South Carolina at Columbia; a Master of Public Health, with a concentration in community and behavioral health, as well as a graduate certificate in healthcare translation and interpreting from East Tennessee State University; a Master of Arts in Spanish with a concentration in translation, as well as a graduate certificate in teaching Spanish from UNC Charlotte; and has pursued additional graduate studies in the teaching of healthcare interpreting at Wake Forest University.
