About Gia
Gia M. Born (She/Hers/They/Them) is a Program Manager in Lloyd International Honors College. Gia earned a Master of Arts in Social Foundations and Community Education with a concentration in Teaching Democracy and Diversity and a certificate in Women and Gender Studies from Eastern Michigan University. Furthermore, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Education with a concentration in Community Health Education from UNC Greensboro in 2021. Additionally, Gia is an alumna of the International Honors program! Before this role, Gia worked professionally in residence life and as a public health researcher.
In her role with the Honors College, Gia oversees the South Spencer Residential College, advises Honors students, provides co-curricular programming for the Residential Colleges, teaches Honors courses, and supports the Disciplinary Honors program.
Outside of work, Gia loves the beach, traveling the world, and attending concerts! Feel free to stop by and chat anytime!

Academic INTERESTS and Honors Courses Taught
As a scholar, Gia is committed to exploring trans liberation, health disparities, mental health, and opioid use through a Black trans-feminist framework. Her work centers on examining how interlocking systems of transphobia, racism, and violence shape health outcomes, social vulnerability, and lived experiences particularly for trans women. By employing a Black trans-feminist model, Giaโs scholarship foregrounds structural violence, resilience, and community-based knowledge as critical sites of analysis and intervention.
