Biography
Guy Capuzzo (Ph.D., Eastman School of Music) is Professor of Music Theory and the author of Elliott Carter’s What Next?: Communication, Cooperation, and Separation (University of Rochester Press, 2012). He serves on the editorial board of Elliott Carter Studies Online. His research appears in journals including Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, Music Theory Spectrum, Journal of Music Theory, and Music Theory Online. His video-essay on headbanging, rhythm, and meter won the Society for Music Theory’s Public-Facing Scholarship Award in 2025. His research interests include Elliott Carter, Henry Threadgill, and heavy metal. Active as an electric guitarist, he records and performs with the Lorena Guillén Tango Ensemble (https://www.lorenaguillen.com/lorena-guillen-tango-ensemble).
