Bio & Education

Dr. Alan Boyette has served as Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro since May 1, 2024.  As Provost, Dr. Boyette oversees the leadership of seven degree-granting colleges and schools (Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Visual & Performing Arts and the Schools of Business, Education, Health & Human Sciences, Nanoscience & Nanoengineering, and Nursing), the Lloyd International Honors College, University Libraries, Research and Engagement, the Graduate School, Undergraduate Studies, Undergraduate Student Success, and the Global Engagement Office. 

A member of the institution’s Political Science faculty, he held the position of Senior Vice Provost from 1991 to 2024, supporting seven different provosts during that time span.  His university experience spans virtually all administrative areas of higher education, having advised many Chancellors and Provosts, and mentored dozens of other academic leaders, including Deans, Department Heads, and Program Directors. 

Dr. Boyette was awarded B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He also attended Emory University, completed post-doctoral work at the university of Southern California, and held an American Council on Education (ACE) fellowship at Ohio University.
