Biography
A proud member of the UNCG family, Josh is pleased to serve as the Program Coordinator for the BFA concentration in Theatre Education, the same degree he earned upon its inception in 1999. Since that millennial turn, Purvis has taught in multiple settings: Myers Park High School in Charlotte, West Johnston High School in Benson, as well as his alma mater, UNC Greensboro. He has also worked with elementary and middle school students at Cary Youth Theatre, in both instructional and directorial capacities, as well as adjudicated many regional festivals for NC Thespians.
As a nine-year member of AEA, Purvis has acted professionally with Triad Stage’s UpStage Cabaret, Deep Dish Theater in Chapel Hill, and the 2017 NC Summer Rep project for the CVPA.
Still holding a K-12 Continuing Professional License (CPL) for Educators in North Carolina, Purvis stays very active within local schools and serves as resource for teachers across the state. He is a proud member of the North Carolina Theatre Arts Educators (NCTAE).
Purvis provides instruction for foundational acting, performance styles, directing, teaching methods, classroom management, clinical internships, and facilitates the student teaching experience for future teachers. He serves as liaison between the School of Theatre and School of Education as a member of the Collaborative for Educator Preparation (CEP) and Council of Program Coordinators (CPC).
