profile
Laura Lopez was born in Spain and grew up speaking Galician, Catalan, and Spanish. She holds a rigorous five-year Honors Bachelor’s in Spanish Philology from the University of Barcelona—a program that encompassed linguistics and literature across the Romance languages—where she also completed her pedagogical certification (CAP). In 2005, she earned her M.A. in Spanish and Hispanic Literature at UNC Greensboro, where she has taught Spanish language and culture courses from basic to advanced levels for 21 years. With over 28 years of teaching experience at both school and university levels, she has worked with native and non-native Spanish speakers across all proficiency levels. Laura is certified in Catalan and Italian, holds an official ESOL certificate from the University of Cambridge (UK) that qualifies her to teach worldwide, and also earned Spain’s CAP certificate for pedagogical training. Beyond the classroom, she has advised student organizations such as the Spanish Club and played an active role in establishing UNCG’s first Hispanic fraternity, Lambda Theta Phi. Her passion lies in fostering student confidence and fluency in spoken and written Spanish through engaging, face-to-face instruction. Her professional journey reflects a deep commitment to language teaching, cultural exchange, and supporting the Hispanic community both inside and outside the classroom.
