Maria Alejandra Navarro Guerriero, DMD, CHW has been a community health worker with the Strong Minds program since 2022. Originally from Venezuela, Maria is a graduate of the Central University of Venezuela, School of Dentistry (2001) where she also earned a Masters degree in Endodontics (2005). Part of her dental training was spent in the infectious disease lab and amongst the rural communities of the Amazon forest, focusing on providing mental health support to indigenous populations living in remote areas, often facing significant challenges due to limited access to healthcare and cultural barriers. Maria is deeply committed to enhancing community well-being by helping immigrant groups cope with the effects of trauma on mental health. She has lived in Latin America, Europe, and the US and has a strong understanding of the unique challenges and struggles immigrant communities have to battle with daily. Maria enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and going to the beach. She can communicate in Spanish, English, and Italian.
