Biography

Dr. Quinton Parker is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he inspires and educates the next generation of music teachers. With a Ph.D. in Music Education from UNC Greensboro, a Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music, and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from North Carolina Central University, Dr. Parker brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role. 

At UNC Greensboro since 2021, Dr. Parker teaches a diverse range of courses including Brass Methods, Marching Band Techniques, Music for Exceptional Children, and Qualitative Research in Music. His teaching approach combines academic rigor with practical insights gained from his years as a K-12 educator, where he served in various roles including Director of Instrumental Music. 

Dr. Parker’s research focuses on diversity and inclusion in music education. His study, “We Wear the Mask,” explores the experiences of Black undergraduate music education students, contributing valuable insights to the field. He regularly presents his work at international, national, and state conferences, and has published in the Journal of Research in Music Education. 

Throughout his career, Dr. Parker has been recognized for his excellence in education and leadership. He is a recipient of the Cleveland Institute of Music Future of Music Faculty Fellowship and a participant in the UNC Greensboro Scholars of Color Leadership Development Program. In 2018, he was named Emerging Leader of the Year in Education by Spectacular Magazine. 

Active in the music education community, Dr. Parker holds memberships in organizations such as the National Association for Music Education and the North Carolina Music Educators Association. These connections help him stay at the forefront of music education trends and innovations. 

Dr. Parker’s multifaceted career reflects his commitment to educational excellence, innovative research, and fostering diversity in music education. Whether working with undergraduates just beginning their journey or guiding graduate students through advanced studies, he strives to inspire a passion for music and teaching in all his students.
