Biography

Sandra Barinowski is the Director of Undergraduate Student Recruitment for the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA). After relocating to North Carolina with her family, she joined CVPA in 2018 and brings 25 years of higher education experience and leadership in undergraduate admissions, academic advising, and new student orientation to the college. As a first-generation college student herself, Sandra values that UNCG offers a supportive, inclusive environment where 50% of the student population identifies as a first-generation college student. She loves the diverse voices and welcoming spirit of the campus community and is amazed daily by the artistry, creativity, and dedication of CVPA students. She believes in meeting students and families where they are and making the admission and audition process for students and their guardians as transparent and low-stress as possible. Sandra is fortunate to have found a profession where her gift of gab, creative problem-solving skills, and desire to help others achieve their dreams coalesce.

Prior to joining CVPA, Sandra previously worked at the University of Alabama-Huntsville for almost 10 years where she served as Director of Undergraduate Admissions prior to moving to academic advising in the College of Engineering for the university. Before that, she worked at Southern Polytechnic (now Kennesaw State University) in student recruitment and new student orientation. It was during her time in Atlanta that Sandra was the recipient of a NACAC Rising Star Award in 2004 and chaired the Atlanta National College Fair Committee for several years.
