Brief Bio

Sarah Hopkins, M.A., CCC-SLP, completed both her undergraduate work in Communication Sciences and Disorders [1994] and her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology [1996] at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Upon graduation, Sarah completed her Clinical Fellowship Year at Cheshire Center, a private pediatric community-based practice. She remained a part of the Cheshire team for 28 years, primarily serving clients within Guilford County in a variety of settings including schools, daycares, and homes. While working at Cheshire Center, Sarah served as a Visiting Professor teaching undergraduate courses within the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at UNCG.

Sarah is now working full time in the CSD department as an Assistant Professor and Clinical Educator. She is nationally certified through the American Speech and Hearing Association and licensed through the NC Board of Examiners.

Sarah’s areas of interest include pragmatic language, articulation, and phonological disorders, building expressive communication skills for nonverbal clients, and facilitating language within the natural environment. Sarah also sees great value in equipping parents and caregivers with the skills needed to facilitate speech and language skills across all environments.

Sarah is passionate about educating the next generation of speech-language pathologists through teaching and providing ongoing supervision of graduate clinicians. “As a therapist, I find great value in first understanding the social impact communication challenges have on my clients and their families. It is from that perspective, that I strive to facilitate effective and rewarding communication skills for those I serve.”

Sarah lives “a stone’s throw” from campus with her husband and has 2 children, a daughter who is pursuing a career as an occupational therapist and a son who plans to work in corporate partnerships within the professional sports industry.
