Biography

Shakira began working with Beyond Academics in Fall 2022. She currently teaches third and fourth year courses. Shakira is a doctoral research fellow, currently in her third year as a Ph.D. student. She has earned a M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling and a  B.S. in Psychology. Shakira has several years of experience working with youth and adults with disabilities transitioning into community and workplace settings. Her research interests include minorities in higher education, mental health, disability studies, assistive technology, multicultural and global issues in counseling.
