Biography
Tami J. Draves (she/her/hers) is Professor of Music Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) and Provost Fellow. She teaches graduate courses, advises graduate students, and coordinates the master’s and doctoral programs at UNCG. Her research interests include preservice and inservice music teacher preparation and support, with particular emphasis on identity and individuals from populations that are marginalized in music. Publications appear in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Journal of Music Teacher Education, Music Education Research, Research Studies in Music Education, Contributions to Music Education, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, and Arts Education Policy Review. She has presented her research nationally and internationally and frequently presents as a guest lecturer and visiting scholar. She is a former member of the editorial board of the Journal of Music Teacher Education and Contributions to Music Education and has been a reviewer for Research Studies in Music Education and Psychology of Music. Dr. Draves currently serves as Chair-Elect of the Society for Music Teacher Education.
As Provost Fellow, Dr. Draves focuses on faculty affairs, including university-wide faculty development and policy work. Dr. Draves developed and facilitates the Faculty Development Program in the School of Music at UNCG, which empowers faculty to build a network of community and support to meet their varied needs, resulting in professional productivity and a healthy relationship with work. She was previously Chair of the General Faculty and Faculty Senate and Interim Director of the School of Music. Dr. Draves is an alumnus of the Center for Creative Leadership’s Leadership Development Program, Eastman Leadership Conference, and the BRIDGES Leadership Program. She is pursuing a professional credential as an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation.
