Biography

“Virginia Freeman Dupont is a professional dancer, choreographer, and educator from North Carolina. She holds both BFA and MFA degrees in Dance Performance and Choreography, as well as a BA in English, from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. A former Greensboro Ballet company member, Dupont has performed in works by choreographers including Gerri Houlihan, Eluza Santos, Rick McCullough, Pegge Vissicaro, Melissa Hayden, Thom Clower, and Maryhelen Mayfield.

Since joining the Gamble/Van Dyke Dance Company in 1995, she went on to perform with both John Gamble Dance Theater and the Van Dyke Dance Group, remaining active until the companies concluded following the passing of their directors, and also served as Associate Director of John Gamble Dance Theater.

Dupont teaches as adjunct faculty at UNCG, where her courses have included ballet, pointe, modern, contemporary, introduction to dance, and the graduate student teaching practicum. Beyond the university, she is the Artistic Director and CEO of Burlington Academy of Dance & Arts, serves as a trustee of the Van Dyke Dance Group, and continues to perform, create, and teach throughout North Carolina.”
