Fashion Writer Elizabeth Evitts Dickinson Lecture

As a part of the 2025 Wicker Endowment Program, award-winning writer Elizabeth Evitts Dickinson shares how fashion innovator Claire McCardell revolutionized comfort and practicality in women’s fashion with zippers, pockets, ballet flats, and more.

Dickinson, whose work has been published in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Harper’s, The Washington Post Magazine, and many other publications, will discuss the story and legacy of the highly influential but often overlooked women’s wear designer Claire McCardell.
Her book “Claire McCardell: The Designer Who Set Women Free” was published this year to rave reviews. A book signing follows the program. Copies will be available for sale from Scuppernong Books.
