A Great Conversation – Rationality Wars: How Irrational Are We, Really?

@
Join the UNCG Philosophy Department for this next event in their Great Conversation series.
Dr. Alejandro Hortal, from the Dept of Languages, Literatures & Cultures, facilitates this conversation exploring the ongoing debate over the nature of human rationality and the implications for understanding behavior.
Are our decisions systematically flawed, or are they contextually adaptive? Competing views from psychology, economics, and philosophy offer conflicting interpretations of what counts as rational behavior—and why it matters.
These “rationality wars” raise critical questions about autonomy, error, and the legitimacy of interventions designed to correct our choices. By examining how we label behavior as irrational, this conversation invites reflection on the philosophical and scientific approaches to rationality.
Free and open to the public.
Location: UNCG Foust Building, Room 206
