THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NUTRITION AT UNCG
UNCG’S Bachelor of Science in Nutrition focuses on the science and practice of nutrition, offering three distinct pathways to a diverse range of careers in this critical, fast-growing field. Whichever concentration you choose, you’ll be mentored by our deeply dedicated expert faculty, and have lots of opportunities to get hands-on with your studies, working on faculty-led research projects and partnering with community groups to apply your classroom knowledge. WHAT IS THE HUMAN NUTRITION AND DIETETICS CONCENTRATION?
The Human Nutrition and Dietetics concentration is a pathway for those looking to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. This concentration focuses on applied principles of nutrition, biochemistry, physiology, behavioral and social sciences, and the promotion of optimal individual health. You’ll automatically be enrolled in UNCG’s Didactic Program of Dietetics (DPD) and complete the required coursework to apply for a supervised practice program. You’ll also be prepared for the required internship to become a registered dietitian, a field which is projected to grow at a faster rate than other professions, with opportunities in many industries and sectors including healthcare, sports nutrition, and culinary medicine.
WHAT IS THE NUTRITION AND WELLNESS CONCENTRATION?
Nutrition and Wellness focuses on the core principles of nutritional science, community nutrition, public health education, and kinesiology. This concentration combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning opportunities working with the community, in preparation for a wide variety of nutrition and public-health-related careers across a range of employment fields. It also provides an excellent foundation for further graduate study innutrition, public health education, and exercise and sports science.
WHAT IS THE NUTRITION SCIENCE CONCENTRATION?
Nutrition Science is a bioscience-based program focusing on the scientific basis of nutrition and the role of nutrients in health and disease. Most students in this concentration go on to pursue advanced degrees, and careers in both private and government organizations dedicated to food, agricultural, pharmaceutical, biotech, and biomedical research and development. Nutrition Science provides an excellent springboard for pre-professional students applying to Medical, Dental, or Pharmacy programs.
