UNC Greensboro’s teacher-scholars, students, and partners dig deep, innovate, and form powerful collaborations to transform knowledge and lives.

Research Unearths Hidden Threats

Dr. Gideon Wasserberg’s study of chiggers and ticks takes him from the forest to the lab as he studies bacteria that may harm humans.  “There’s a meditative solitude in nature,” he says. “It helps you to see things clearly.”

Why UNC Greensboro?

With a motto of “service,” Spartans drive purposeful change for the betterment of North Carolinians and beyond. The nurses in your doctor’s office, the accountant on main street, and the teacher in the classroom are Spartans who create remarkable real-world impact, every day. This pursuit of service begins with dedicated scholar-teachers who mentor students and provide opportunities for students to conduct impactful work, exposing them to careers where they can – and do – make a difference.

Real-world Impact

Whether discovering the next natural medicinal cure to a common ailment, researching augmented reality for first responders, or educating future teachers to communicate with sign language in order to serve hearing impaired children, UNCG Spartans change lives for the better – in small everyday interactions and in monumental ways world-wide.

From lab to Life

UNCG research faculty understand that an idea is not enough. Innovations must be tested and honed through real-world partnerships to meet and effectively conquer the complicated challenges of our lives. That focus on impact is why UNCG won the 2021 National Community Engagement Award from the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities.

Making N.C. Better for All

UNCG graduates more first-generation and lower income students than any other public institution in the state. Upon graduation, many alums stay in NC – 102,551 in total –   to make a difference in communities across our state.

Hands-On Service

Student learning goes beyond the classroom and the lab at UNCG. Whether through annual Days of Service, internships, or leadership programs, or engaged, collaborative scholarship, the UNCG experience is like no other. The Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement enables students to serve others while building critical community service experiences that make their resume stand out from the crowd.

Finding Art in Unexpected Places

UNCG artists combine research with music to create a mobile installation that places art at the fingertips of an engaged community.
