UNC Greensboro will award approximately 2,887 earned degrees at the 2021 May Commencement and Doctoral Hooding ceremonies.
The University will hold multiple ceremonies at the Greensboro Coliseum on May 7 and 8. Ceremonies will be live streamed for families and friends given capacity restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
UNCG plans to award approximately 2,175 bachelor’s degrees, 615 master’s degrees, 96 doctoral degrees, and one specialist in education degree. Of the degrees awarded, 116 will be conferred to international students. This year’s class includes the very first graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Information Science program.
There will be three Class of 2021 ceremonies for bachelor’s and master’s graduates on Friday, May 7. Graduation candidates will walk with their college or school.
- Friday, May 7, at 9 a.m.: School of Health and Human Sciences, School of Nursing, Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, UNCG Online, Interdisciplinary Master’s, and Beyond Academics
- Friday, May 7, at 1 p.m.: College of Visual and Performing Arts, School of Education, and Bryan School of Business and Economics
- Friday, May 7, at 5 p.m.: College of Arts and Sciences
On Saturday, May 8, at 9 a.m, UNCG will hold a ceremony to honor the Class of 2020 (bachelor’s and master’s graduates). More than 4,700 Spartans earned degrees in 2020 but were unable to participate in an in-person ceremony due to the pandemic.
The Doctoral Hooding Ceremony will take place May 8 at 2 p.m. and will include graduates of the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021.
All ceremonies will include the following COVID-19 safety protocols:
- Each graduate may bring two guests; all will be ticketed. No additional guests will be permitted.
- A screening process will be in place for attendees based on University, State, and County protocols.
- Face coverings are required.
- Following each ceremony, graduates and guests are asked not to congregate in the Coliseum and are encouraged to meet at their vehicles in order to limit gatherings.

The University will display #UNCGGrad-tagged Instagram and Twitter posts live before the ceremonies. The social media display is one way family and members and friends not in attendance can share congratulatory messages with graduates.
