UNC Greensboro’s efforts towards making a sustainable campus has earned it a spot on the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s list of top performers.

The 2022 Sustainable Campus Index (SCI) recognizes top-performing colleges and universities overall, as well as in 17 sustainability impact areas. Hundreds of colleges and universities use the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) to measure, report and strengthen their contributions to global sustainability.

UNCG was recognized as a top performer for its water conservation and rain management. AASHE highlighted the bioswale stormwater biofiltration systems across campus. It also referenced research by the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) to develop novel sensors that detect phosphorus in complex environments.

UNCG’s membership in AASHE enhances the university’s commitment to incorporating sustainability into its way of doing business and its academic programming. Students and employees are entitled to a free membership with AASHE and can create an account with their UNCG email addresses.

AASHE has resources concerning sustainability developments and research at universities across the nation, including newsletters and access to an extensive online collection of reports detailing sustainability projects on other campus communities.
