Dr. Edan Tan (Teacher Education and Higher Education) received new funding from Rutgers University (Prime: National Science Foundation) for the project “EHR Core Research: Fostering deep learning, identity, and agency: Minoritized students learning biology in personal and community-relevant contexts.”

The goal of this collaborative project seeks to engage middle-school learners in an extended and coherent inquiry-based learning experience in biology deliberately designed to enhance epistemic agency and consequential community-based learning. By engaging learners in participation meaningful to their communities and placing a clear focus on emphasizing their epistemic agency, the project will aid them in developing epistemic, disciplinary expertise over time, in tandem with supporting positive identity work. This project, led by a seasoned research and development team from Rutgers University, UNCG, and the Concord Consortium.
