The M.S. in Kinesiology — Sports Medicine degree program is primarily intended for certified athletic trainers and other clinicians seeking advanced knowledge in the areas of athletic training, sports medicine, biomechanics, or motor behavior.
The Sports Medicine concentration offers two tracks: Applied Neuromechanics (research track) and Sports Medicine (clinical track). Both tracks offer a collaborative environment that prepares students as practitioners, researchers, and educators who work together to reduce injury risk, return individuals to normal function following injury or disease, and improve the health and performance for physically active individuals of all ages.
For over a century, the Department of Kinesiology has been a cornerstone department of the University. Beginning as the Department of Physiology and Physical Culture in the Women’s College in 1892, the department took the progressive view that women should be physically active to improve their health and wellness. As the department evolved and grew with the university, our name changed, but our mission to promote education in and instruction of physical health remains at our core.
