Outside the Nursing and Instructional Building.

The Spartans ADVANCE Project, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) addresses gender and racial inequity for STEM educators in academic workplaces and the academic profession. The ADVANCE Project team is pleased to announce they are teaming up with Fair Play to host an implicit bias workshop for graduate students, postdoctoral students, and faculty members, and staff.

Fair Play raises awareness about stereotypes and other racial biases in academia, which can inadvertently influence judgments about and behavior toward others. In the game, participants play the role of Jamal, a graduate student who experiences bias incidents as he navigates his academic career and interacts with faculty, staff, and students on a college campus.

After playing the game, workshop participants will engage in a facilitated discussion about addressing bias, and learn about the strategies to mitigate the effects of bias on themselves and their current and future work environments.

There are separate workshops for students and for faculty. Both will be held in the Nursing and Instructional Building, Room 101.

Priority Registration is March 31.

Students: Thursday, April 20 from 9 a.m – 12:30 p.m. RSVP here.
Faculty and staff: Friday, April 21 from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. RSVP here.

Lunch will be provided.

Any questions can be sent to Tyler Clark or Dr. Shelly Brown-Jeffy.
