For five consecutive years, UNCG has welcomed outstanding secondary school teachers from around the world through the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program. Through partnerships with UNCG faculty, Guilford County Schools, local organizations, and community members, the program has created meaningful cultural exchange, strengthened international understanding, and expanded educational opportunities for teachers and students both locally and globally.
UNCG is one of three universities in the US selected to host a six-week Fulbright TEA program this fall. This is the 5th year UNCG was selected to lead this program. This is a collaboration between the Global Engagement Office, School of Education, and Guilford County schools.
This year, we have 20 participants from 19 different countries. This is an intense professional development program for the teachers with Fulbright’s broader goal of positive cultural exchanges with students, faculty and staff, and people in the Greensboro community.
Program participants have opportunities to observe, co-teach, and share their expertise in our local schools. We specifically partner with UNCG’s Middle College, Western Guilford High, Doris Henderson Newcomers School, and Sylvia Mendez Newcomers’ School in High Point. Their teaching experience ranges between 6-34 years, and they teach English as a foreign language.
Fulbright TEA is funded by the U.S. government, supported by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State, and administered by IREX. More information on the FTEA program can be found on the IREX website.
