The Communication Lab and Academic Achievement Center (AAC) are partnering to bring coaching and consulting services to a new satellite location in Ragsdale-Mendenhall Residence Hall, beginning Monday, Nov. 2. The location extends the support already available at the Communication Lab in MHRA 3211 and the AAC in Main Library Room 023, offering students another convenient place to access academic support during the busy last few weeks of the semester.
This satellite location was the inspiration of Academic Professional Assistant Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies Michele Lemonius and faculty-in-residence in the Historic Quad and Ragsdale-Mendenhall. Lemonius says, “The goal of the satellite is to lower geographical barriers for student success by creating an informal close-to-home environment that provides easy to access academic support.”Students can now drop in for academic coaching and consulting at a convenient spot inside Ragsdale-Mendenhall Residence Hall.
Located near Housing and Residence Life, the Gove Student Health Center, and Fountain View Dining, the satellite site is intended to make academic support more accessible and approachable, particularly for first-year students. Although it is housed in a residence hall, the location is open to all UNCG students, not just those who live in the building.
Abby Stubblefield, an undergraduate consultant at the Communication Lab, is excited about the opportunity to offer support in a hub of campus life. “It would be convenient to have a little extra help on that side of campus,” she says.
We’re excited to meet students where they are (literally) and support their journeys at UNCG. The satellite location will be open in Ragsdale-Mendenhall every other Monday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. beginning Nov. 2. Faculty and staff are encouraged to share this opportunity with students who may benefit from academic support at this critical time in the semester.
