The threat of rain earlier in the week did not stop people from coming out to UNC Greensboro’s Night at the Grasshoppers. They were rewarded with beautiful weather at First National Bank Field and the chance to walk home with some giveaways courtesy of UNCG.
UNCG representatives welcomed people as they walked into the stadium to watch the Greensboro Grasshoppers play the Hickory Crawdads. UNCG pre-med student Gloria Middleton sang the national anthem.
The cheer and dance team and Spiro posed for pictures throughout the evening and entertained the crowds in between innings.
Families who stopped at any of UNCG’s tables or visited the Esports mobile trailer also learned about the ways that UNCG provides for the community. Religious Studies Professors Gregory Grieve and John Borchert told them all about UNCG’s latest Esports initiatives. “We were delighted to share our thrilling advancements in the study of video gaming and Esports, all while savoring a fantastic Grasshoppers game,” says Grieve.
At another table, the public learned how the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders helps to improve the lives of people with hearing or communication disorders.
“Faculty from the department were in attendance and represented the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center,” says Center Director, Lisa McDonald. “Assistant Director, Lisa Fox-Thomas, and I shared details about the speech-language and audiology services available at the Center for members of the community of all ages.”
UNCG has had a long friendship with the Grasshoppers to support Greensboro’s local team and give students, faculty, staff, and alumni a fun place to come together with the rest of the community. It thanks every Spartan who represented the University at the game.
