Add-On Licensure in Elementary Science

Candidates in the elementary science add-on licensure program will meet standards and competencies through successful completion of five science education courses (15 credit hours). Candidates will receive a K-6 add-on licensure in science as approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education. All courses are online. Applicants for this program should hold an elementary teaching license and have completed at least two years of teaching.

The Student Experience

Students will complete the following science education courses in order to earn the add-on licensure:

  • TED 657 – Nature of Science, Technology, and Society
  • TED 651 – Teaching Life Sciences
  • TED 652 – Teaching Physical Sciences
  • TED 653 – Teaching Earth Sciences
  • TED 632 – Science Education: Teaching Practice and Curriculum

After Graduation

Graduates of the program go on to offer more advanced methodologies to their elementary students in science and serve as teacher leaders in their schools. Others go on to become curriculum facilitators of a school or school system science coaches.
