Do you want to gain a deep understanding of the natural world, living systems, and modern materials? UNCG’s Bachelor’s in Chemistry program offers your choice of Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees. Each Chemistry degree program offers its own focus and degree of specialization, but both provide sound training in chemistry and excellent preparation for a range of science-related careers.
B.s. or b.a. — which bachelor’s in Chemistry PROGRAM is right for you?
Choosing between the B.S. and B.A. in Chemistry degrees at UNCG depends on your academic goals and career aspirations. Both of these exceptional programs offer hands-on research experiences and access to award-winning faculty, preparing you for a range of diverse and meaningful careers.
THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (B.S.) IN CHEMISTRY
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry program provides a rigorous, in-depth exploration of chemistry, featuring advanced coursework and research opportunities. This program is ideal for students planning to attend graduate school, pursue careers in the chemical industry, or enter competitive pre-health pathways such as medical or dental school, where thorough training in the sciences is highly valued. Graduates of the B.S. Chemistry program are certified by the American Chemical Society, reflecting its high standards for professional training.
Interested in the same in-depth scientific exploration across broader scientific disciplines? Our B.S. in Biochemistry degree program is a great alternative that provides training that bridges chemistry and biology. Graduates from the Biochemistry program have been successfully admitted to pre-health professional programs, as well as graduate school or careers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
THE BACHELOR OF ARTS (B.A.) IN CHEMISTRY
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) program is less specialized than our B.S. in Chemistry degree. However, it offers solid foundational training in chemistry and greater flexibility to explore interdisciplinary interests or pursue double majors. It’s well-suited for students planning careers in secondary education, certain roles within the chemical industry, or pre-health fields that allow more room for broader academic pursuits.
