UNC Greensboro’s Bachelor of Science in Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies (CARS) is available in two concentrations: Apparel Design and Retailing and Consumer Studies. This program prepares students for the broad scope of the industry and produces graduates who understand designing, manufacturing, marketing, and apparel-related products. Your classroom learning will include best practices and real-world examples from the industry so that everything you learn will be relevant to your future career.

Program Distinctions

  • Our B.S. in Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies program is accredited by the Textile and Apparel Program Accreditation Commission of the International Textile and Apparel Association.
  • Our students have a high rate of placement in the field — many even before graduation.

The Student Experience

  • Students participate in studio classes, hands-on projects, and internships with leading apparel and retail companies.
  • Close connections with industry leaders, including an advisory board of senior-level executives from a wide range of consumer, apparel, and retail related companies, keep our curriculum innovative and relevant.
  • Internships from North Carolina to New York and beyond allow you to work for the brands that inspire you such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Saks, Inc., Belk Stores, JCPenney, and VF Corporation (The North Face, Wrangler, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica).
  • There are a variety of student clubs available, such as Alpha Kappa Psi, Beta Gamma Sigma, National Millennial Community, North Carolina Sales Institute, Spartan Investment Club, and THREADS.

After Graduation

Potential career paths include advertising copywriter, buyer, costumer, department manager, fashion advertising director, fashion buyer, fashion consultant, and fashion coordinator. Graduates of the program work in a variety of positions, including:
