The Bachelor’s in Kinesiology, Exercise Specialist (ES) degree prepares students interested in exercise physiology, fitness instruction, strength training and conditioning, sports coaching, and wellness coaching. The concentration readies students interested in master’s and doctoral graduate programs in areas related to health, wellness, and physical activities. This includes exercise physiology, physical activity pedagogy, and sport and exercise psychology. Such degree programs prepare students to teach and research at the collegiate level.
Bachelor’s in Kinesiology, Exercise Specialist Program Distinctions
Students have the opportunity to prepare for multiple disciplinary-related certification exams required for strength training and conditioning positions at the Division I and professional levels. These include the National Strength and Conditioning Association‘s Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist exam and the American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist exam.
Bachelor’s in Kinesiology, Exercise Specialist Student Experience
Students in the Kinesiology Exercise Specialist concentration may have the opportunity to help with a faculty research project.
- Students take 12 hours of concentration-specific coursework, including courses on exercise testing, assessment, and prescription, and an internship preparation course.
- Students will complete an internship, which may include assisting in the UNCG Hope (Helping Others Participate in Exercise) program.
After Graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree as an Exercise Specialist
After becoming an Exercise Specialist, potential career paths include:
- Strength and conditioning coach
- Exercise physiology
