As a graduate of UNCG’s Bachelor’s in Mathematics degree — available as a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) — you’ll be technically competent and well-grounded in mathematical theory, with strong career prospects in a variety of fields, thanks to our emphasis on undergraduate research opportunities. Both of our Bachelor’s in Mathematics offer the opportunity to pursue our Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) and earn your Master of Science (M.S.) in Applied Statistics in conjunction with your bachelor’s. You can also pursue Disciplinary Honors in Mathematics.
B.S. OR B.A. — WHICH mathematics DEGREE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mathematics is more technically oriented than the B.A. Focused on intensive training and research, it provides solid preparation for work or further study in mathematics or a related field. Students interested in graduate school — such as our M.S. in Applied Statistics (also available as part of our Accelerated Master’s Program) or our Post-Bachelor’s Certificate (PBC) in Statistics should get the B.S. degree.
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Mathematics is more flexible than the B.S. It offers you the opportunity to specialize in mathematics with a General Mathematics, Health Informatics, or Statistics concentration. The B.A. in Mathematics degree enables you to follow a broad liberal arts program or specialize in a second area, possibly even taking a second major.
