The Bachelor of Music in Performance with a Strings Concentration at UNC Greensboro is a rigorous professional degree designed to prepare students for careers as orchestral musicians, chamber performers, private studio teachers, and collegiate professors. It is a highly immersive conservatory-style experience within a major liberal arts university with specialized pathways for five core instruments: Double Bass, Cello, Harp, Viola, and Violin.

The Bachelor’s in Strings Student Experience

  • Students receive one-on-one private lessons with their instrument’s faculty. 
  • String studios meet weekly for masterclass-style performance critiques, technical instruction, and focused orchestral excerpt preparation. 
  • Students may join a number of clubs and organizations including Clubs and organizations include Music/Performing Arts Student Ambassadors, Mu Phi Epsilon, Phi Mu Alpha, Sigma Alpha Iota, Pi Kappa Lambda (Music Honor Society), student chapters of the National Association for Music Education (Collegiate), and the American String Teachers Association.
  • Students participate in one of UNCG’s two orchestras and various chamber ensembles. Select students perform with the school’s premiere string ensemble of faculty and students, Gate City Camerata, or in the new music ensemble Present~Continuous.
  • Students have added opportunities to perform or work at the UNCG Summer Music Camp, the largest university summer music camp in the United States.
