Statistics, B.S.

Statistics is the science of collecting, analyzing, interpreting, presenting, and organizing data. It helps us make sense of complex information and make informed decisions.

The curriculum includes courses in probability, mathematical statistics, sampling methods, computational statistics, and advanced topics in data analysis. These courses build strong data analytics skills, which are increasingly vital across all disciplines.

In today’s data-driven world, statistics is an essential component in decision making, uncovering patterns, and turning raw information into meaningful insights.  Graduates with a statistics degree are highly sought after.

The Statistics Student Experience

As a statistics student at UNCG, you can:

• Conduct research alongside faculty members during research experiences for undergraduates.
• Gain hands-on experience working on data analysis projects for organizations such as the Greensboro Police Department and Cone Health.
• Network with other statistics majors in a relaxed setting in the Math/Stat Club and the student chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics.
• Learn from prestigious faculty who are active researchers and have received grants from institutions such as the Joseph M. Bryan Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.

PROGRAM DISTINCTIONS

• The department offers research opportunities to undergraduate students, including the NSF-supported math and biology Research Experience for Undergraduates.

• The program offers an accelerated master’s degree from which you can earn a B.S. and M.A. in as little as five years.
