UNC Greensboro has announced its Fall 2023 enrollment with a total of 17,743 students and an increase among first time college students, transfer students, and readmitted students over Fall 2022.

The University enrolled 2,613 first time college students this fall – an 11.5% increase from Fall 2022. More in-state first-year students also chose UNCG – a 12.5% increase over last fall. The average high school GPA of the first-year class is now 3.64, an increase from last fall as well. This is the largest first-year class since 2019.

“Amid national enrollment challenges, we recruited and welcomed a strong academic class of Spartans,” said Chancellor Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr. “As our new students show, UNCG continues to be a university of choice for students who seek an exceptional education in a welcoming environment where they can be themselves.”

To help students enroll, staff in the University’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships handled 5,265 phone calls and took 2,209 office visits in July and August. They also answered more than 2,000 emails in August. The Cashier’s Office handled 4,200 emails and phone calls in July alone.

“It takes an entire campus to enroll the new first-year class, and I want to extend my appreciation to our faculty and staff who worked tirelessly to assist students through the application and enrollment process,” said Tina McEntire, vice chancellor for enrollment management.

UNCG continued to improve transfer partnerships with community colleges, improve the articulation of transfer credit, and ensure a seamless transfer process for students. The University enrolled 1,626 transfer students this semester – an 8.9% increase over last year. The number of readmitted students also increased this fall – with an 8.8% jump from Fall 2022. Readmitted students are those who returned to UNCG after taking a break from their degree path.
