This October, UNCG News shone the spotlight on five majors and concentrations that can be found across the University, highlighting their strengths, unique features, and the many career paths that graduates have taken.

Criminology & Justice Studies
“We study lawmaking, law breaking, and the reactions to crime.” – Dr. David Kauzlarich
This concentration within the Department of Sociology can be a path to a career with law enforcement, court systems, or victim and restorative justice services.

Animation
“We support students who want to find a job in the industry and students who want to be independent artists.” – Dan Hale
This concentration is for students with a passion to create. They’ll learn how to work with both 2-D and 3-D animation.

Hospitality and Tourism Management
“We’ve got the mountains and the coast. Hospitality and tourism is a huge economic driver for our state.” – Dr. Erick Byrd
Graduates can find jobs close to home and all over the world, in famous resorts and with local businesses.

Recreation and Parks Management
“I doubt there’s a recreational therapist within a hundred-mile radius that we don’t already know or have some form of internship or practicum relationship with.” – Dr. Benjamin Hickerson
This major brings a therapeutic and health-oriented approach to leisure. Graduates may become licensed recreational therapists or event planners.

Information Science
“Information science emerged because we’re producing information faster than we could ever have imagined.” – Dr. Lisa O’Connor
This degree – with its four concentrations – produces highly applicable skills that are valued in all professional and service sectors.
