The Greensboro community is invited to hear the inspiring experiences of a nationally renowned entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist, and health equity advocate. On Sept. 22, Demond T. Martin will give talks at UNC Greensboro, culminating in an evening program that is free and open to the public.
Drawing on a journey that has taken him from a North Carolina childhood to the White House, Wall Street, and the forefront of purpose-driven entrepreneurship, Martin will share lessons on leadership and creating lasting impact for others.
Martin is CEO and co-founder of WellWithAll, an organization dedicated to advancing health, purpose, and opportunity. He will speak first to UNCG students at 3 p.m. at Elliott University Center Auditorium. That will be followed by a public event at 6:30 p.m. in the same location.
The community event is free. Anyone interested in attending may register ahead of time.
A life story about promoting health and education
Through early experiences in both urban and rural communities, Martin learned lessons in resilience and adaptability that would inform his approach to leadership. His path continued at UNC Charlotte, where he met his wife Kia and took advantage of opportunities that paved the way for their future.
Together, they established the Martin Family Foundation to close gaps in education and healthcare. Through WellWithAll, Martin is helping reimagine what health and wellbeing can look like for those who need care the most. Through a business model that combines wellness products with investments in community health, he works to expand access to healthier futures.
Before launching WellWithAll, Martin served as assistant to White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles during the Clinton Administration and later became senior partner at Adage Capital Management. He’s served in leadership roles for the Obama Foundation, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Berklee College of Music, and the GRAMMY Global Venture Board.
New memoir reflects on mentors and friends
As part of the Martin’s visit to Greensboro, Cone Health Philanthropy is providing free copies of his recently published book “Friends of the Good.” These will be made available to attendees while supplies last.
Inspired by Aristotle’s concept of virtue-based friendship, the book explores the power of meaningful relationships and offers practical insights on leadership, purpose, and personal growth. Martin talks about the individuals he met at critical turning points in his life, including family members, teachers, and fraternity brothers who inspired him to always keep moving forward.
Martin’s visit is part of UNCG Connects, a speaker series that welcomes innovators and changemakers to campus to talk about new ideas, foster meaningful connections, and encourage lifelong learning.
