Today, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Guilford Technical Community College announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) guaranteeing students from GTCC direct admission to UNC Greensboro after completing an eligible associate degree with a required GPA.

The direct admissions program creates a clear pathway for GTCC students to enroll at UNCG by identifying and removing barriers that have traditionally stood in the way of a seamless student transfer.

GTCC Senior Vice President for College & Workforce Instruction Beth Pitonzo Ph.D., and UNCG Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Alan Boyette participated in a joint signing ceremony at UNCG to formalize the MOU between the two colleges.

“Each semester, we have a number of students that naturally progress to UNCG after obtaining their associate degrees from GTCC,” said Pitonzo. “We’re hopeful this agreement will enhance the transfer process with this direct admissions program providing a smooth transition for students from GTCC to UNCG.”

The direct admission program will offer support with simplified credit transfer, allowing transcript sharing between the two institutions; personalized academic advising with a goal of preparing students for internships, jobs, and career success; and financial aid guidance.

“Hundreds of GTCC students transfer to UNCG each year, a testament to the strength of our longstanding partnership,” said Boyette. “This agreement builds on that success by allowing us to offer admission earlier, while students are still completing their associate degrees. It gives students more time to plan their next steps and reinforces our shared commitment to expanding educational opportunity.”

To qualify, enrolled GTCC students will need to complete a minimum of 45 credit hours toward an associate in arts, science, or applied science and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
