Football Saturdays may be stereotypical collegiate scenes, but in North Carolina the most spirited rivalries and fan bases gather for basketball games. At UNC Greensboro, fans needn’t look further than their next basketball game to immerse themselves in Spartan spirit.

A Warrior Storms the Streets

In November, Spartans kicked off the men’s and women’s basketball seasons with Storm the Streets, a UNCG tradition where students meet at the baseball stadium and march together to the First Horizon Coliseum (formerly, the Greensboro Coliseum) for the men’s first home basketball game.

There, fans are hyped up by the cheer and dance teams, the pep band, and of course, the skills of our student-athletes, but they’re most excited to follow the lead of the face of our athletic program – Spiro!

With the help of third-year cheerleader Ava Garrison, Spiro let us tag along for a behind-the-scenes look at one of his busiest days of the year. Take a look at how Spartans get ready for basketball season at UNCG.

Get in the Game

If you’d like to be a part of the hoops action this season, you’re in luck.
