New minors. New department names. And new campus resources bring exciting experiences to students at the start of UNC Greensboro’s 2026-27 academic year. These new offerings from around campus will elevate student gatherings, enhance studies, and give Spartans greater ease in navigating college life.
Here’s what’s new at the G:
New Academic Offerings at the G
UNCG programs have added new majors — graduate and undergraduate — along with new minors to get students in position to thrive in an ever-changing workforce.
In the College of Arts and Sciences:
- The new Bachelor of Arts in Health, Medicine, and Society (HMS) prepares students with an interdisciplinary focus in healthcare. Students who major in HMS will learn about health-related ethics, distinct cultural and social contexts of healthcare, the history of medicine, and healthcare policy and law. They will gain research experience through internships and field study.
- The new minor for Spanish Health Care Professionals builds on language skills that make a difference in the health field. Designed for students in human and health services and future medical interpreters, this program prepares them to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking communities.
In the School of Education:
- The Mental Health Literacy and Wellness undergraduate minor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Development provides students foundational information on mental health, wellness, information literacy, and core communication and coping skills. They will learn how to navigate questions of mental wellness with their peers and communities.
- The Educational Studies undergraduate minor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations explores complex issues, practices, and perspectives in education. They support career pathways such as community-based education and leadership, social work, the arts, higher education, public policy and law, youth advocacy, counseling, and nonprofit work.
In the School of Health and Human Sciences:
- The Department of Community and Therapeutic Recreation is now Sport Management and Recreational Therapy. It now offers bachelor and master’s degrees in Recreation and Sports Management.
- A new Public Health undergraduate minor offered by the Department of Public Health Education will expand students’ understanding of health on aspects of life — public health, sexuality, mental, alcohol, and drug abuse, environmental, ethnic, financial, race and ethnicity, and social status.
- The HHS Advising Center moves to 127 McIver St. It will remain there for at least two years while the Moore Building undergoes renovations.
New Leaders at the G
UNCG welcomes Dr. Emily Gaspar, the new Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. She succeeds Dr. Brett Carter.
University Libraries welcomes a new interim dean. Amy Harris Houk will lead all libraries and archival services during the search for a successor to Dean Michael Crumpton, who retired this summer.
New Perks Found around the G
In Recreation and Wellness (RecWell), the Kaplan Center, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, has new cardio equipment and new Pilates reformers machines.
RecWell is also making wellness easy with the introduction of FusionGO, a new app for students to find all upcoming events and recreational programming.
A new thrift store concept, Late Checkout Thrift, is opening in Spartan Village. This partnership between Campus Enterprises and the local nonprofit Glenwood Together allows students to participate as customers and sellers, renting out booths at the store between the Millenium Salon and Allegacy Financial locations at Spartan Village. The project also brings onboard UNCG alumna Anna Sullivan ’24, who will share her signature matcha drinks and other treats in its cafe. The store will hold its soft launch on Aug. 14 with a grand opening on Aug. 22.
New Flavors to Spice Up Life at the G
At the Student Choice food station, Spartan Dining has added the customizable grain bowl experience, featuring signature chef-crafted bowls and Build Your Own options where every ingredient is served exactly how you want it.
The All-Access Gold Meal Plan now comes with exclusive monthly Snack Packs, Golden Hour rewards, and new semester-long perks. Upgrades to Transact Mobile help students find app-only deals, rewards, mobile ordering, and Golden Hour perks.
New Projects Coming Online at the G
This fall, UNCG will celebrate the official opening of the new Jeanne Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice. Completion at the corner of Tate Street and Gate City Boulevard is expected later this semester. With state-of-the-art resources, including a massive LED volume, a maker space, and a learning lab, the new center will serve as a hub for research, creative exchange, and innovative programming. It will also be home to the arts administration program in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
In Spring 2027, Weatherspoon Art Museum will unveil its new Cole Levin Center for Art and Human Understanding, a dynamic new space for teaching, learning, and discovery through the nearly 7,000 original works of art in the museum’s collection.
