The Master’s in Computer Science at UNCG builds depth of knowledge in computer science and research competence to prepare students for advanced careers in computing fields. Students completing the MS degree go on to careers that shape the future of technology and how it’s applied and are also well prepared for doctoral study in computer science.
The program offers opportunities for students to work alongside faculty who are conducting cutting-edge research in bioinformatics, virtual reality, big data, artificial intelligence, security, and much more.
Master’s in computer science PROGRAM DISTINCTIONS
The computer science master’s program has the support of one of the largest computer science departments in the state but maintains modest class sizes and one-on-one support from faculty.
- Graduate students can participate in faculty research initiatives with impact such as Professor Suthaharan’s grant to explore the resilience of Western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene.
- UNCG is one of only seven public universities accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Master’s in computer science STUDENT EXPERIENCE
The master’s program in computer science gives students a chance to elevate their knowledge in the field, participate in research initiatives, and prepare for advanced positions in their careers.
- Students have three options for completing their required capstone experience: a comprehensive examination, project, or thesis.
- An optional concentration in Data Science and Big Data is available for computer science master’s students.
- Qualified UNCG undergraduate students who are pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science may apply for admission to the Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP). See Accelerated B.S. to M.S. Details in Catalog.
