The Master of Science is designed to build computer science depth and research competence, and to prepare students for advanced careers in computing fields. If you are completing the MS degree, you are also well prepared for doctoral study in computer science.
The Data Science and Big Data concentration allows you to focus your studies on the in-demand field of data science. You will take courses on theories, algorithms, and technologies to develop analytical systems for disparate, complex, and small or large-scale datasets.
PROGRAM DISTINCTIONS
- The program offers opportunities for you to work alongside faculty who are conducting cutting-edge research in bioinformatics, virtual reality, big data, artificial intelligence, security, and much more.
- Faculty received more than $800,000 in new research grants during the 2019-2020 academic year from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes for Standards and Technology, and more.
- UNCG is one of only seven North Carolina public universities accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE
- You have three options for completing your required capstone experience: A comprehensive examination, a project, or a thesis.
- The Data Science and Big Data concentration can be obtained with careful selection of appropriate elective courses, not requiring any additional courses beyond the regular MS requirements.
AFTER GRADUATION
The Data Science and Big Data concentration will be an official degree designation that is shown on your transcript, indicating that you have studied key courses in this in-demand field.
After graduation, you can expect to either enter a PhD program, leading to a career in academia, or to receive employment as a:
