Throughout the program, students will:

  • Complete multiple field experiences before student teaching.
  • Learn from experienced mentor teachers.
  • Teach in a variety of school settings.
  • Apply evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Finish with a full-time student teaching internship.

Coursework combines content-area expertise with professional education courses in:

  • Adolescent development.
  • Classroom management.
  • Literacy across the curriculum.
  • Assessment and instructional design.
  • Educational technology

Undergraduates may collaborate on faculty research related to adolescent learning, educational equity, mathematics and science education, educational psychology, and other topics shaping modern classrooms.

Middle Grades Education students have access to UNCG’s Student Educator Learning Factory (SELF) Design Studio, where they explore emerging technologies such as augmented reality, 3D printing, and makerspace learning. These experiences prepare future math teachers to create engaging, technology-rich classrooms. Also available is the Michel Family Teaching Resources Center (TRC). The TRC is a model school library media center that offers a large collection of picture books, young adult fiction, nonfiction, board books, kits, and manipulatives. The TRC offers professional resources that can be useful in creating lesson plans and study guides for North Carolina teacher exams.

The U.S. Department of Education requires that all higher education institutions advise students as to whether their curriculum provides them with the eligibility to apply for a professional license and/or certification in the state for which they plan to practice. As such, please review UNC Greensboro’s status by state for the initial teaching license. You should note whether the program either “meets”, “does not meet”, or if there “has not been a determination” of the program’s status in the state for which you plan to practice. Licensure Reciprocity Information
