Jordin Hipps inside the UNCG Esports Arena.

UNCG Esports is excited to announce that Jordin Hipps has been nominated for Student Leader of the Year, and the UNCG Gaming and Esports Club is nominated for Club of the Year at the Scholastic Esports Awards. Spartans can support their chance to win by voting daily ahead of the award ceremony.

The inaugural Scholastic Esports Awards are designed to recognize, honor, and celebrate the achievements of the incredible people in the scholastic esports space. This year, celebrated live on January 11 and 12, held at The Ohio State University.

Voting can be done here.

Hipps came from Charlotte to UNCG and discovered the Esports Club in her first year. She became co-president and the social media manager. The experience in Esports fueled Hipps’ choice to change her major to social media marketing, while remained committed to her mission to encourage more girls to get into video gaming.

The Gaming and Esports Club has been around since 2011 and helped lead the way in Triad Esports during the construction and opening of the new Esports Arena at Moran Commons. They’ve competed in and hosted multiple LAN style tournaments, including Valorant, Overwatch, and Apex Legends.

UNCG Esports is committed to fostering marketable skills for students while also being active beyond campus, encouraging intersections of gaming and education across North Carolina. Esports has been a springboard for STEM education for young girls. It’s been a source of camaraderie and healthy competition for high schoolers through the Scholastic Esports Alliance and its tournaments hosted in the UNCG Esports Arena. It has sparked a new world-class curriculum for public high schools throughout the state. Students at UNCG find faculty members who respect the potential of video gaming, whether that be enjoying it as a hobby or using it as a tool in academics.
