UNCG’s Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Advanced Materials allows students with STEM bachelor’s degrees to continue their studies, understand fundamental concepts in nanoscience, and prepare for future careers in this ever-expanding field.
The certificate is a 12-credit program for individuals with a baccalaureate or master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Biology, or closely related STEM fields who want additional training and foundation skills. Five graduate certificates are offered in Nanoscience, Advanced Materials, Analytical Instrumentation, Medical Science, and Synthetic Biology, which will afford numerous opportunities for collaboration with industrial partners and for pursuing advanced degrees.
Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Advanced Materials Program Distinctions
The study of advanced materials has touched all aspects of human life and is a growing and active field. Advanced materials require a broad knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics, materials science, and engineering. The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Materials program allows students with STEM bachelor’s degrees to understand the fundamental concepts of advanced materials and prepare them for future careers in this ever-expanding field.
The Joint School of Nanoscience and NanoEngineering Student Experience
The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering recruits the best and brightest students from a variety of disciplines to conduct advanced research in Nanoengineering and Nanoscience. Students are challenged to choose a research area that is expected to provide significant benefit to mankind. Beyond becoming exceptional researchers, students will develop leadership and communication skills that will make them an exceptional asset in any academic, industry or government organization.

- NAN 604 Nanotechniques
- NAN 615 Spectroscopy Methods in Nanoscience

- NAN 640 The Science and Engineering of Thin Films
- NAN 655 Biomimetics and Biomaterials
- NAN 771 Computational Quantum Nanochemistry
After Receiving a Certificate in Advanced Materials
